kt01: Perceptions of the Interior

I made this album in the years 2005-2007 -- a long time, but that's because I kept going back and adding things here, tweaking things there, and so on. This probably fits best in the "synthpop" genre, although it's entirely instrumental, except for a couple short vocal snippets.

- Hello.
A simple track that serves as an introduction to the album's style.
- Running
This song is so titled because, well, it feels like running. As you listen to it, try to imagine the various different places you could be running.
- DramA
A rather dynamic song, and very danceable.
- Identified
One of the first songs I made, this is beat/rhythm driven -- very fast, acid house type song.
- Joy Renewed
This one is quite fun poppy, and deceptively simple.
- Back to the Basics
I used standards of electronic rhythms in this song, as well as simple waveforms (like triangle, sine, and sawtooth waves), to construct the foundation of this song.
- Falling
Very chill and relaxing. Everyone says this song sounds like ice cubes.
- Typical Techno?
120 bmp in the key of c minor, with a TR-808 for the main, driving rhythm. But is it really that typical?
- A New Song
Extremely poppy, and I love how the bass line turned out. I also love the 909 drum machine I used.
- The King Returns (The Music in My Head)
When you listen to this upbeat song, can you picture a king of old returning to his city, victorious from war?
- Aboriginal
I got really creative in this one. Can you picture the restless natives?
- Peceptions of the Interior
The final track, this song is also the title track. It's a very emotional one. The lyrics I sing at the end are "searched the world for peace/You made my life complete".

Titled "the hasty ep" because it was created in a hurried manner during the spring of 2007 -- over the course of one week, around several responsibilities like work and such. Very pop-focused, with synthetic sounds mixed in.

- I Hope This Isn't Too Typical

Made solely with Apple's GarageBand application.

A portion of this song was sequenced and recorded with ProTools, with the drums sequenced in Abelton Live. I used my Yamaha and my Korg in this song.
- This Is What I Live For

My goal here was to create something with a very laid-back feel. I made this with GarageBand.
- Memorizing the Periodic Table

This is a very danceable song. It was made with GarageBand, and I used the midiO plugin to route MIDI to my Korg.

song info:
My first remix! I did this one for a contest at ACIDPlanet.com -- this quickly became a trend, as I have since entered many of the contests there. You can kinda tell it was my first remix, as some of the stuff is rather amateurish. The remix title comes from the whole middle section, as it sounds rather "cavernous".

Although this is more of a cover or a remake, in video game remix circles this is known as a "ReMix." Another rather amateur-ish sounding track, I originally made it for Project Chaos over at OC Remix. It was rejected, first by the project leaders of Project Chaos, and then by OC Remix itself, where I later submitted it. Although I did some good work in this song, I understand why it was rejected. It's here just in case anyone might like it.

My second entry for an ACIDPlanet.com contest. This one I started about a month before the deadline, didn't touch it for 29 days, then crammed in 3 hours of work the night of the deadline. I submitted it 40 seconds after the deadline, and even though I sent a message to Rhys Fulber (the talent behind Conjure One), it was therefore not considered for the contest. Which reeeallly stunk. I'm not sure how well it would have done anyway, since there are some sloppy things in it as a result of the insane cramming.

song info:
The Echoing Green is an awesome synthpop artist, so when I found out that Joey (who basically is The Echoing Green) was hosting a remix contest for one of his new songs, I about freaked. I was pretty busy at the time, but I was determined not to pull another cramming stunt like I did with the Conjure one contest. So, I set aside most of time for the four days before the contest ended, and put this together. Although it did not win, I am very, very pleased with it. You can find this remix, along with several others, on the original forum discussion at echocentral.com.

I had sooo much fun with this one. I was rather disappointed with the remix of this tune that appeared on Project Chaos, especially since everything else was so good, so I eventually made my own remix! This, my second video game "ReMix," was also rejected over at OC Remix, although it did substantially better than my first one. I have since posted it over at VG Mix, where it has received good reviews and lots of downloads. (Oh, and let me tell you...those sound effect samples were not easy to get!)

This one was fun, and rather difficult. The original track was so abstract that coming up with creative ways to interpret it was tough, and I also did lots and lots of detailed effects and chopping. Oh yeah, I also synthesized a lot of the drums from scratch! Again, I am really pleased with this one, but it didn't win the contest over at ACIDPlanet.com.

Fun! Here, I got to remix indie electronic artist extraordinaire Zircon, aka Andrew Aversa. A lot of my best work is found in this one, from sequencing to chopping/splicing. I didn't win the contest -- I'm sure my style isn't Andrew's favorite -- but the winning entries were pretty darn good!

song info:
Beatport used this song for its first remix contest, on their sister site, BeatPortal. It was very fun to remix, although time was a little tight (due to my procrastination). The finished product is a very danceable, mixable song. My boss at my old job used to spin various types of electronic music, so he helped a lot with the production.
